Hamilton 2012 Courses

Cooperating Church in Chartwell, Hamilton. Please email us for an enrolment form. Note
that these are not laboratory based courses.
Introduction to electricity and electronics
This exciting new workshop will see children learn about electricity and electronics
concepts through a series of challenges using the Electroflash electronics teaching kits.
They will learn about circuits, the function of common electrical and electronics
components (such as light bulbs, resistors, diodes, transistors, capacitors, LEDs) and
series and parallel circuits. A fun, hands-on workshop.
No prior knowledge or skills required. Suitable for ages 9-13, course fee: $25 per student.

Introductory chemistry: atoms and molecules
A hands-on workshop where students learn about chemistry through using the Molymod
molecular model building set. Topics: atom structure, electron structure, Periodic Table,
compounds, balancing chemical reactions, organic families and their structures,
3-dimensional shapes of simple molecules.
Suitable for ages 13-17, course fee: $20 per student.

Workshop: Elements, atoms and molecules explained!
Topics are: what is an atom? What is an element? What is a molecule? We will look at the
periodic table and study a few elements in more depth. We will build molecules using the
Molymod molecular model building sets.
This workshop is hands-on with a variety of engaging activities. Children usually go home
buzzing with excitement about their new knowledge and understanding of the basics of
chemistry. Warning: be prepared for your child to want to do more science and chemistry!
